Post intubation, the right eye and surrounding feathers were
plucked and cleaned with dilute betadine. The feathers were plucked
further caudal than necessary. In surgery, the dorsal and ventral
palpebrae were incised with iris scissors, and a blade was used
to remove the cornea. The lens and vitreous were removed via
a surgical spatula. Sterile cotton tip applicators and sterile
4x4 gauze was used to to remove the remainder of the tissue from
the interior of the globe. The 3rd eylid was also incised away.
Any remaining tissue was also removed. Following this, 5-0 PDS
suture was used to close the palpebral with subcutaneous continuous
pattern; 5-0 PDS was also used to close the skin with four cruciate
sutures.
